Medical Evaluation and Treatment At Oasis Treatment Center, we regard the treatment of alcoholism & chemical dependency as a lifelong process. Our treatment helps individuals call upon their own personal, psychological and spiritual resources as a result of the following therapeutic processes:

Medical Evaluation and Treatment:
A detailed medical history of the individual is prepared which includes childhood diseases, hospitalizations, alcohol/drug abuse patterns, past treatments (if any), current medications, etc. The patient is then given a physical examination. Upon completion, recommen-dations are made to the individual and staff of how best to proceed in detoxification and recovery.

Dual Diagnosis Assessment:
Patients are given a personalized evaluation for a possible secondary psychological diagnosis that may include Bi Polar disorder, anxiety, depression or others. If necessary patients are then referred to our staff psychiatrist and an individual treatment plan is established.

Psychosocial Assessment:
Through a series of questionnaires and counseling sessions, areas of low self-esteem, irresponsibility, strained family relationships, grief, social problems, legal issues, etc.

Group Therapy

are determined and evaluated. The individual then meets with a counselor on a daily basis to work through issues in their life that were once buried by their alcoholism/drug addiction.

Alcohol and Drug Education:
Participants are taught the physiological effects of alcoholism/drug addiction, including the long term healing process they will experience as their bodies become accustomed to functioning without alcohol and/or drugs.

Group Therapy:
Under the direction of a certified counselor, our participants are encouraged to share about their character defects, life traumas, and how these were dealt with in the past. As each member in the group relates their own personal history on a given subject, participants come to realize that they are not alone, that others have gone through similar circumstances and are now learning to deal with life without relying on drugs or alcohol.

Relapse Prevention:
Both current residents and alumni attend this weekly session. As a combination education and group therapy session, a great deal of time is given to answering questions that deal with day-to-day living in recovery. This meeting also affords the opportunity for alumni to share their experience in living clean and sober and for the residents to see that recovery works.

Tai Chi:
Residents attend a weekly tai chi and basic self-defense class that focuses on self-improvement, health, balance and stress reduction. Tai chi reminds the body what it is like to be free, flexible and filled with limitless supplies of natural energy. Tai chi rebuilds muscle, tendons and damaged tissue and optimizes the circulatory, nervous, respiratory and digestive systems. These classes are held in the courtyard of the Oasis and taught by Mr. Mathew Carver who has trained with Master Hing Wo Tsim for the past 6 years in the form of Lau Kune Do. Lau Kune Do is a way of life and philosophy that practices harmony, gentleness and peace of mind. Master Hing Wo Tsim has studied various styles of martial arts for more then twenty years and is a highly respected Master of the arts.
